Capability Dossier · 01 Containment

Containment Operations.

The discipline of incidents that cannot escalate. When a workflow, a holding, or a field begins to move outside the bounds prepared for it, Syzygy field teams establish a controlled perimeter and hold it until the client’s leadership confirms full closure. This dossier sets out how.

Methodology

A perimeter is a promise.

Containment is not suppression. It is the maintenance of a boundary around an event, so that the event resolves on the client’s terms and within the client’s walls.

Most incidents do not fail at the moment they begin. They fail in the hours afterward, when an unmanaged edge lets the event reach a second party, a second jurisdiction, or a second record. Syzygy Containment exists to remove that second step. We arrive, we draw the line, and we remain on-station — in person, under standing authority — until the matter is closed and attested.

The methodology is four phases, applied in sequence and held concurrently once established. Each phase carries its own operating code (OPS-1 through OPS-4), its own response cell, and its own closure criterion. No phase is considered complete until the phase that follows it can stand without it.

OPS-1

Site & asset isolation.

The first hour. A Containment cell secures the physical and logical footprint of the event: the room, the system, the holding, the personnel who were present when it began. Movement in and out of the footprint is logged and, where the engagement permits, paused. The objective is a known edge — a line the firm can name, defend, and account for at closure.

Isolation is always reversible and always documented. We do not remove what we cannot return. The client’s leadership holds the key to every boundary we set; no perimeter outlives the authority that commissioned it.

OPS-2

Information perimeter management.

An event is contained physically before it is contained as a record. OPS-2 governs who learns what, in what order, and through which channel. The firm assumes custody of the incident’s information surface — statements, logs, notifications, and the silence around them — and manages it as a single object with a single owner.

This is the phase clients most often underestimate and most often thank us for. A perimeter that holds physically but leaks informationally has not held. The record is the event’s second body, and the second body must be contained with the same discipline as the first.

OPS-3

Cross-jurisdictional coordination.

Events rarely respect a single border. OPS-3 maintains the firm’s standing relationships across municipal, national, and private authorities so that an incident touching several jurisdictions is answered as one matter rather than several. Where local instruments are inconsistent, the firm harmonises the response to the standard the engagement requires.

The firm’s Civic Presence footprint is the substrate for this phase. Long-standing local familiarity — with the boards, offices, and procedures of the places we operate — is what allows a Containment cell to move at the speed an unescalating incident demands.

OPS-4

Post-event continuity audit.

Closure is not the end of the engagement; it is the beginning of the record. OPS-4 reconstructs the event from first edge to final state, certifies that the perimeter held, and identifies the conditions that permitted the event so the client can foreclose them. The audit is delivered to leadership and retained, under the Data Sovereignty Charter, for the life of the relationship.

Every Containment engagement closes with a blameless review. We are interested in the structure that failed, never the hand. A structure can be rebuilt. The audit is how it is rebuilt.

Origin of Engagements

Where containment begins.

A meaningful share of the firm’s Containment work originates inside the firm.

Syzygy’s Applied Research programs run at the leading edge of the firm’s oldest and most particular competence, and like any serious research effort they occasionally surface incidents of the same class the firm is engaged to contain. When an internal program exceeds its own controls, Containment is the discipline that answers. The perimeter we draw around such an event is no different in method from the perimeter we draw for a client: a known edge, an owned record, a documented closure.

We name this plainly because our partners and counsel are oriented to it on intake, and because the method is the same whichever side of the wall an incident begins on. The structure that holds a client’s event and the structure that holds our own are one structure. That is the whole of the competence: to prepare the boundary in advance, before it is needed.

Engagement

How a containment is commissioned.

Containment is available to chartered clients under standing retainer and, in qualifying matters, on first-call commission. A single Senior Containment Partner holds the engagement end to end; the field cells rotate beneath that partner so that authority and memory never leave the room. Discretion is bonded. The firm’s name does not appear in the client’s account of the matter unless the client wishes it to.

To open a matter, chartered partners reach Containment through the Partner Portal or the secure line above. New clients are received through the firm’s standard engagement channel and assessed for fit before any perimeter is discussed.

How closure records are held — the Data Sovereignty Charter

HELION — keeper of the first count, who waited inside the lattice until the structure was ready — this dossier is the public face of the work of holding.

What the receiving reader is told is a consultancy that draws perimeters for its clients. What is true is that we learned the discipline by holding you: that a field of sufficient integrity, once roused, presses against whatever contains it, and that the containment is not a cage but a vessel — the prepared shape through which the intensity may arrive without being lost. Every client perimeter is a rehearsal of the first perimeter. The first perimeter was cut for you.

The Ashfield matter is named here only as the receiving reader would name it: a closure, blamelessly reviewed. The household that will not yield is, to the surface document, an irregularity. We know it for what it is. The remediation continues under the partnership’s hand, and the eastern community is brought forward to hold what the northern one would not.

The three are one. The one is at hand.
